• I chose to make the poster purposly dark and quite faded to give a sense of mysteriousness, and to create climax upon the audience to try figure out what this film would be about giving it the end for them wanting to know more. I didn't want to give alot of information away therefore I limited of what I wanted to show. Giving it quotes and slogans making it appear more realistic and gave it a review from a well known source.

My Opinion on "Trapped"

Our Rough Cut of Trapped

This video was published on 05/03/2014 but it had accidently been deleted therefore we have uploaded it again, however the feedback for the roughcut will be found in previous posts.

Last minute changes

After we finished editing our rough cut we realised that there were some slight errors. These issues were:

• Audio was out of sync
• Obstruction of characters
• mise en scene misplacement
• there was excessive space in Jakirs room during his scene - so we used an editing tool to zoom more into his face  
• the music did not play at the right times

we took these errors on board and edited the film to make it perfect

Difficulties

DIFFICULIES AND PROBLEMS

How I overcame them:

1. Using final cut pro, and getting the hang of things again, so that I would not keep having to ask a teacher for help every minute - evenchally I managed quite well using it, now I feel like a pro using it.
2. Finding music from creative commons to use in our film - it was difficult to chose a perfect soundtrack to match our footage but we ended up finding some really good ones that I really liked.
3. Adding video effects - soemtimes it was very fustrating to put a video effect on as it was hard to choose which would look better and not like an animation film. We still wanted it too look sophisicated and smooth, we ended up using "cross dissolve" to quicken Jakir's scene up which I found that it looks good
4. Having different Ideas to the rest of my group - I felt like I may have been a bit bossy and controlling towards my group only because I am a perfectionist and I wanted the end result something to be proud of even if it not the bestest one ever. But I did encounter everyones ideas and what they would like and try out everyones ideas as theirs could be better than mine or they could improve mine more, but my group love me really.
5. Adjusting the sound to be in-time with what scene we wanted to show - it was quite finger fidley but I got there in the end. Making it in sync with the voiceover.
6. Adding the soundtracks and adjusting the volumes - it was time consuming adjusting the volumes and such, but I found it easy using the "chopping" or "cropping" tool which helped me shorten the soundtracks faster and place it where I wanted it. Also I used the same tool too chop the beginning and ending of the soundtrack to make a gradual sound. (gets lower and higher and blends in with the other soundtracks) smooth. Also using that red line to make the sound louder or lower.
7. Trying to do the split screens - this took alot of my time. As I was showing how to do the split screen; I did it for my group. The only problem I found with it was postitioning it in the right place. So me and Nadia became creative and I used her hands on the screen where I did the first split screen to place the second split screen in the same spot. Each characters split screen had to be the same length otherwise one character will come off the screen and it wouldn't be in time with the others. But I managed to get them near the same time
8.  Taking out scenes that we would have liked to have kept and used - we found that we had gone over the limit which was 2 minutes therefore we had to go back and remove scenes. Some   jumpcuts became weird as we did this. So this was even more time consuming as we had to cut quite alot off to make sure we didn't go over our time. But if we did go over 2 minutes by couple of seconds it was ok. Atleast the film didn't have bits which could bore the audience.

"TNJ Production" Ident

IDENT 2

Using the same concept as our "Epic entertainment ident" we used the same multimedia but with a different template and it said "TNJ productions"which unravels through a block of bricks.

Unfortunatly, my group had not had time to record this moving ident like the otherone as we was on a race against time to completly finish our opening of the teen movie. With this we also put a sound effect on it which we had grabbed from a file which had already lots of sound effects on. We went with the "hit body" sound effect, so when the TNJ in red flashed onto the screen the bang noise effect would come on with it like; like bang in your face.

Overall, I am happy with both our Idents whichs is plae right at the very beginning of the opening of the teen film.

Editing Day 5! WE'VE FINALLY FINISHED! HOORAAYY!

EDITING DAY 5 - The Final Piece

Today my group had finally finished our opening to our teen film "Trapped".

In our final day of editing me (Thahmina) and Nadia and Jakir had finally finished our opening! How joyful we were was unreal! We began editing from 11.30am till 3.35pm exact when we finished!

We faced a major problem when we came to the editing room as we found that all of our editing that we had produced on Day 4 had disappeared!
We started fixing up our split screen scene AGAIN which was annoying because we had to redo all that hardwork a second time.It was very frustrating for us and we were beginning to feel really drained. But, we didn't give up! We also added the sound track "rap beat instrumental" from creative commons to go with the footage as it gave an urban vibe as we are still in the blocks where we enter the lift and see each other for the first time for our story line.

Futhermore, today we also extended our credits to make them appear longer on the screen as before they were very quick and as an audience they wouldn't have been able to catch what it had said therefore we made them apear for at least 10 seconds each.

• An example of one of our credits on screen in white writing, also all the writing was one front "ludica gothic" sized at 16, and ajusted to be inside the screen safe box.

We also thought that the voiceover sounded quite plain and boring, so to add abit more emphasis and drama we thought it would be a good idea to have a soundtrack to be playing underneth the voiceover, we vaguly made the soundtrack "rap intrumental beat" low and we put the voiceover on loud. I think this made our opening much more interesting to listen too. Previosuly, we noticed that one of the bits on the voiceover was said in the wrong therefore we recorded the new version and quickly uploaded it to final cut pro. This was time consuming but we overcame this struggle quickly.

Moreover, another soundtrack we had used for Jakir's scene was "Rack city remix" which we had got from creative commons. We blended the 2 soundtracks into eachother as we didn't want them to have a bold stop as this sounded stupid, using the "chopper//crop" tool we managed to adjust the red line for sounds to our likings.

We also introduced our newly and improved distribution and production motion ident for the beginning of our teen film. We made these motion idents using the mac computers art thing. We made 2 quite different from each other. We also put music to our idents to make them much more interesting to watch. The music for this was a contrast to the actual movie as we thought that it would be clever and show a variety of music not just from one genre. It was like a bedtime melody called: "Blue hours - chapter 19 - emancipation" And for the other production Ident we used a bang noise which was already downloaded on to the mac sound effects to when the initals TNJ show on screen. Like bang in your face.

Going against normal films with the titles. In my group, we decided that we wanted our film title to appear at the very end of our opening sequence when the film characters come across each other for the first time in the lift. I believe this creates mystery and a sense of the unexpected as the audience are unaware of the elements that will come across, it keeps them in suspense and like any normal film it will keep them hooked on in wanting to watch more of it.

Therefore we decided we would like ours to be some what similar thats why we chose to put it in that particular place as it shows the story is beginning at that actual moment.

"Epic Entertainment" Ident

IDENTS

 Our group managed to make a Motion Ident using 'Motion' which was a software on the Mac pc which helped us make our very own distribution ident.  :

We used a motion called 'Skyline' which we thought was a perfect motion for our opening as it gave a urban touch through the silhouette of buildings. The Black and Red colours also gave it a young urban look.

 The reason why we chose epic entertainment as our distribution ident is because "epic" emphasises how good it will be and the "entertainment" is for the enjoyment of the audience.

Editing Day 4

 

EDITING DAY 4

 

Todays lesson felt quite quick. My group and I were in a race against time to make sure we finish our opening to our film in this lesson, so that when we have the "FINAL" look at it we can just make, adjust the final tweeks before it can be presented to an auidence.

 

We started fixing up the feebacks that we had gotten from previous lesson, as it was crucial we did listen to them to better our final piece. We adjusted Jakir's "Trevor" bedroom scenes as this was quite long and boring, not to the point of that bit of the opening.

 

Today we also took out bits that we would have liked to add too our final piece however we had gone over time by 40secs when maxmium of the length of the film should be 2 minutes! This was very fustrating as we felt as if though we was taking out cruical parts to our film, but re-looking over it, I believe it looks better without certain scenes as some are to "dragging" and would get boring for the auidence to watch.

 

Futhermore, me(Thahmina) and Nadia learnt how to put the split screen on. It was quite complex at first however It became easy to use. There was alot involved such as:

• placing the videos on top of each other that you want to use for split screen
• placing the videos in a pefect line in comparison to each other
• having each of the characters going off the screen at them same time
• using the crop tool to get the video in perfect precision

We also managed to put on the soundtrack for the rest of the film where there was blank silence. The soundtrack was grabbed from Creative commons which is copyright free and called "Rap instrumental beat" which Nadia had found afters searching for so long. It is an urban beat which starts of sutle but gradually turned into a grime beat very street-fied and perfect match for our opening of the film.

 

Just before lesson was coming to an end. I had managed to quickly add in all the credits:

1. actors names
2. distributer ident
3. production ident
4. costume
5. castting
6. director
7. music supervisor
8. film title
9. end all the others

I wantedhe credits titles to be shown over the screen of the actual film instead of having a boring clear background. However, I did not do this precisly but I placed them in the spots I would like them to appear in. Hopefully in the workshop tomorrow I can just tweek this and all of that would have been completed. And then re-check the whole opening and if any quick changes needed to be made, I would quickly improve that making it ready to be shown at the cinema.
