Trapped - Checklist for filming on monday

This is the checklist created for mondays lesson where we will start filiming our opening scene of "Trapped".We individually have props and costumes we need to bring in for monday.

Soundtrack Task

Our task was to watch a clip of an opening with no sound and to add in a soundtrack that would best suit the clip that was given to us. We also had to use soundtrack that was free to use as copyright is a legal act and we will not be allowed to use a soundtrack that did not belong to us.
We used a site called 'Creative Commons' which was a website which had free music and sountracks available for us to use for our task. Because the scene looked as though it was calm and lonely, we decided to choose a depressing soundtrack which we thought best suited the clip.
Here is our version of the clip:

Prezi Presentation Pitch - Feedback

After pitching our prezzi's to our audience, we gained positive and negative feedback which would help us improve our plans on filming our opening.

Positive Feedback

We were told that our group had a strong idea as we decided to use three different characters which allow us to use more imagination when introducing each one of them in the opening. For example, For Cassie we would use upbeat, girly music and also dress her in designer labels to represent her character as being very fashionable and appearance focused.
They also liked the idea of the three characters getting ready for college in the morning because again, it introduces the protagonists and also an introduction to a new stage in their life which is college.

Negative Feedback

Our group originally wanted to show skill in our openings by using a cyclical structure by starting off with a problem of being stuck in the lift and then taking it back to how the day began and eventually lead back to the problem, but we were told that it would over complicate things and we should just open the film by introducing the characters and then lead to the problem.
Also, we wanted to use a picture of the earth dissolving into a map, London, the town where the characters live and then their building but we were told that we had to use our own footage and not an image we browsed on the internet for. We knew that this would be difficult for us because we wouldn't be able to take our own picture of the Earth so instead, we decided to take a close up shot of the street name and then show shots of the building that the three characters live in to set the scene.
Another issue we had was the music we wanted to use to represent the three characters. We had to be careful that the music we wanted to use was copyright free as we could get into a lot of trouble for using someone else's music without their permission.

Costumes and Props for Cassie, Trevor and Maya

              Maya - (Nadia)

Costumes

  • Plain Shoes
  • Plain hoody
  • Jeans
  • Black bag/rucksack
  • Glasses
Props
  • School Books
  • Diary
  • Folder
  • College ID
  • Calender - 5th September
  • Candle
  • Lamp
  • Alarm clock
We wanted to create the character Maya as a shy girl with a low self esteem after previously being bullied in her old secondary school. We decided that plain clothing represent her character well because it would show that she is not interested and also not used to impressing anybody or even herself. The clothing would also show an obvious contrast between her and Cassie which emphasises the two girls as being completely opposite to each other.
We also decided to use school books and folders as Maya's props when she is on her way to college because it gives the impression that she is only going to college to study and to avoid socialising which she was not very good at in her previous school.
Maya also has a diary which is a key prop in the film as it holds all her thoughts and feelings of her college life. The opening begins with her writing in her diary to show it is a big part of her everyday life and the only thing she can talk to and trust her feelings with, which is a perfect thing to target against her in the climax of the film.

Cassie (Thahmina)

Costumes:

  • Printed trousers
  • White Plain Top
  • Designer Shoes
  • Jacket
  • Designer Bag
  • Designer Watch
Props
  • Lipstick
  • Mascara
  • Hair Accessories
  • Hair Brush
  • Perfumes
  • College ID

We wanted to create the character Cassie as a popular girl with a passion for fashion. We decided to use designer costumes to represent her character in this way. Again the designer clothing would show a clear difference between her and Maya as Maya is the complete opposite with boring and plain clothing.

We also decided to use very girly props in the film such as lipsticks and perfume to emphasise that she cares about her appearance a lot. In the opening we will show close ups of her applying make up and getting dressed to give that impression. This shows that she is very careless about her studies and she is more focused on her looks which also highlights the difference between her and Maya.

Trevor (Jakir)

Costumes:

  • Hoody
  • Chains
  • Jeans
  • Shoes

Props:

  • Cigarettes
  • Phone
  • College ID
We wanted to create Trevor, the only boy of the three characters a badboy who leads his gang and attracts all the girls in the college. We decided to create this by giving him chains and a hoody to represent his bad character. In the opening he wakes up with a phonecall from his mum reminding him to stay out of trouble and to make sure he is early to school. This already gives away his reputation of being a bad boy in the past. He then smokes outside his window showing his bad habbits and then he gets ready.
