A teen film is a film genre targeted at teenagers and young adults of both male and female gender,the content in the film is based on the interests of teenagers such as :
- first love
- gangs
- rebellion
- conflict with parents and guardians.
Teenagers go through a transitional stage in which they physically grow and acquire skills which help them move onto adulthood and get ready for work.Many of these films show the transition through a variety of characters which are portrayed in many ways due to stereo typical themes.An example of this is when a teenagers innocence is taken away due to bad influences such as gangs and a life of crime involving knifes , guns and drugs etc.In teen films teenagers are usually made out to be irresponsible and unaware of the reality of life..Teenagers tend to receive negative attention in the press this is due to the stereotypes.some of the stereotypes about teenagers are that they are loud,demanding,irresponsible and wild.Teenage hood is the time before adulthood and after childhood .The concept of teenage hood was introduced in the 1950's just after the war where mass destruction was caused due to the war and a lot of redevelopment was done which means the economy grew and many teenagers having jobs and having disposable income for the first time ever.This is when marketing companies started selling teenagers things which meet their needs and are appealing to them.
